Dr Olga Oikonomidou was awarded the iWantGreatCare certificate of excellence in 2025 for delivering outstanding care.
There are some people in life who change the course of your journey in ways you never thought possible, and Dr Oikonomidou is one of those truly extraordinary individuals. The care she provides goes far beyond professionalism — it is deeply personal, unwavering, and life-changing. What makes her stand out immediately is how much she values me as a person. She listens with genuine intent, takes the time to truly understand, and ensures I am involved in every decision about my care. She doesn’t dictate — she collaborates. In doing so, she has given me a sense of control and dignity during one of the most challenging experiences of my life. Her compassion is constant. No matter how difficult the conversation, she creates a space where I feel safe, heard, and respected. I have never once felt like just another patient. She sees the whole picture — my life, my circumstances, and what matters most to me — and she treats me accordingly. Since my stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis in 2015, she has been a pillar of honesty and strength. She communicates clearly and truthfully, yet always with kindness and reassurance, striking a balance that has helped me face reality without ever feeling alone. What truly defines Dr Oikonomidou is her determination to go above and beyond. At a time when I felt let down and dismissed by others because of my metastatic diagnosis, she refused to accept limitations on my behalf. She stepped forward with a completely different approach — one that ultimately changed everything. She guided me towards treatments that my cancer responded to incredibly well and went even further by helping me access later on newer additional treatment that was only FDA-approved and available privately. She connected me with outstanding specialists in London for localised treatment to my lungs and liver, ensuring I had every possible opportunity. Because of her, I am here today living a good quality of life — something that once felt uncertain. That is something I will never be able to fully put into words. Knowing she is in my corner brings a level of confidence and security that is indescribable. She has not only cared for me medically, but has stood beside me, advocated for me, and believed in me when it mattered most. Dr Olga Oikonomidou is not just an exceptional doctor — she is someone who changes lives. I will be forever grateful.

From my very first appointment, I knew I was in exceptionally good hands with Dr. Oikonomidou. She combines outstanding clinical expertise with a rare level of compassion and genuine care that immediately puts you at ease. What makes her truly remarkable is not only her knowledge, but the way she communicates—always clear, thoughtful, and reassuring. She takes the time to ensure you understand your situation and feel confident in every decision, which is invaluable during such a difficult time. Throughout my care, I felt consistently supported, respected, and never rushed. She approaches each patient with empathy and dignity, creating an environment where you feel heard and understood. Dr. Oikonomidou sets the standard for what patient care should be. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been under her care and would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone seeking both clinical excellence and compassionate support.

I have been under Dr Oikonomidou’s care since 2020 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer and unfortunately secondary breast cancer in 2023, and there is no one I’d rather have in my corner. Dr Oikonomidou has listened, encouraged me to ask questions and has explained new treatments and plans. Although Dr Oikonomidou has always given me the option whether to proceed with treatments, I trust her implicitly. I know she’ll go above and beyond to get the right treatment for the individual person. I’m very grateful to have Dr Okonomidou as my oncologist.

Dr Oikonomidou has been amazing in the treatment of my wife’s secondary breast cancer. She has an amazing amount of knowledge and has been very informative all the way through my wife’s treatment doing what is best for the patient at all times keen to try new treatment plans which have allowed us the best quality of life on a day to day basis possible. I have every confidence in Dr Oikonomidou and trust that she has my wife’s care and best interests at heart and would highly recommend anyone in the unfortunate position to require this type of treatment to use Olga if at all possible.

I was initially diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer in November 2019 followed by secondaries in Jan 2020 – dreadful timing, just as Covid hit. I persevered with the NHS system in Tayside but was getting nowhere. After a couple of years of intermittent care I took the plunge and signed up with Dr Olga at the Spire in Edinburgh in August 2022. Dr Olga’s care was a revelation. Both her and the wider team at the Spire chemo room took excellent care of me and it is to their credit that I’m still here in 2026 and able to write this review. My cancer journey has been up and down. I cope well with chemo (thankfully!), but have what I describe in my lay-person terms as ‘knock on effects’. After a number of hospital admissions for obstructive bowel to no avail, Dr Olga organised an operation in Manchester that gave me a normal gut-life again. I don’t know where I’d be if Dr Olga hadn’t come to my aid and found a surgeon willing to perform a risky operation. Dr Olga is clearly on top of the subject as evidenced by the various chemo drugs and tweaks to same that I’ve had over the last nearly 4 years. I trust her diagnoses implicitly and firmly believe she has my best interests at the core of her care for me. Dr Olga - Big thanks to you, and the Spire team, for all you have done for me.

I cannot express how grateful I am to have found Dr. Oikonomidou. After transferring to her care privately, I immediately felt a level of compassion, attentiveness, and expertise that I had been desperately seeking. A breast cancer diagnosis is frightening enough, but spending over a year and a half feeling unheard and dismissed left me emotionally exhausted and constantly worried. The moment I met Dr. Oikonomidou, everything changed. She listens. She cares. She treats you as a whole person, not just a diagnosis. Throughout an incredibly challenging period for me and my family—especially with my sister and I receiving diagnoses only eight months apart—she supported me with extraordinary kindness, clarity, and reassurance. Her guidance has helped me navigate some of the most difficult moments of my life and the difference she has made is immeasurable. I often find myself wishing I had been under her care from the very beginning of my journey. It would have spared me so much fear, uncertainty, and emotional strain. Dr. Oikonomidou is not only an exceptional consultant; she is a source of strength, wisdom, and inspiration. Her dedication to her patients and her contribution to oncology are remarkable—truly deserving of the highest recognition. I admire her deeply, not only as a clinician but as an extraordinary woman who empowers and uplifts those around her. She is a rare and outstanding doctor, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have her in my corner.

Although they have never met her, my family and friends are in awe of Dr Olga as they witness up close the great benefit to me of her outstanding care. With skill and empathy Dr Olga and her team have supported and guided me as I deal with the reality of living with Stage 4 secondary breast cancer in a positive way. Thanks and appreciation are words too small to convey what I owe this exceptional Doctor who is a forth right and truly kindly woman.

I have been a longstanding patient of Dr Olga Oikonoumidou. Despite the stress and shock in the early days of finding out about my secondary breast cancer diagnosis, I knew in my heart that I was in the very best hands, and I would receive exceptional care. I have always felt listened to, I know I'm in the hands of an expert, and by God's grace and Olga's expertise, I feel well. Sincere thanks to all the secondary breast care team at the Western, and particularly Dr Olga Oikonoumidou - you are all truly outstanding.

I feel privileged to write a review for such an outstanding Consultant. I was diagnosed with Triple Negative breast cancer in February 2025. Dr Olga Oikonamidou was allocated to my care. Olga, has such a lovely caring nature as well as so much knowledge and experience. I have received nothing but gold standard treatment from Olga. It is very evident that she wants the best for her patients. I feel extremely grateful that I have an amazing medical team behind me and reassured that any decisions made about my care are discussed with Olga. I can’t thank Olga enough for the care and support I have received and her candid approach. A cancer diagnosis is a very scary time and Dr’s like Olga are a blessing. My sister said to me ‘If I ever had a breast cancer diagnosis I would want Ogla and the rest of your medical team to look after me’
