Dr Caroline Michie

Being diagnosed the complex stage 4 breast cancer has been transformed by the care I have received from Dr Mitchie. She has gone above and beyond to look after my sanity and that of my family. She made difficult decisions about emergency chemo and carefully explained the pros and cons of each decision we have had to make. She has given me control back at a time when my world is upside down. She understands the trauma of this diagnosis for a mum of 5 children and keeps my family at the heart of my care. Dr Mitchie is knowledgable and upto date. My other experiences in the NHS mean that I am anxious about these things. I thank Dr Mitchie with all my heart and have no hesitation in recommending her as a doctor. Her medical expertise is founded in care, compassion and wisdom.

I am a consultant oncologist and when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer I asked Caroline to look after her. I have absolute confidence in her professionalism, knowledge and skills as a doctor. She is genuinely kind, listens intently, gives generously of her time and is able to adapt treatment to take into account personal circumstances without compromising quality of care. She is always honest, friendly and open. In short, I wouldn't choose anyone else.

Dr Michie was instrumental in helping us as a family during an exceptionally difficult and tumultuous emotional time when my mother had breast cancer. She was always made herself available to help us to understand what each step of the journey meant and how it might play out. Consistently sensitive and honest it was of such comfort in navigating a very complex illness which metastasised to the brain and other parts of her body. Dr Michie had also helped enormously previously when my mother had bowel cancer some years prior. To have someone treat you as a human being as a family and as the person suffering is priceless. It is also something one will never be able to pay back other than through gratitude and thanks. Her approach is so specifically person-centred and her empathy and kindness are unparalleled.

What do you say about the person who has saved your life? There will never be enough words to say how grateful I am to Dr Michie. She always treated me as a person and saw how much I was struggling with my diagnosis. She gave me all the time I needed and spoke to me on a human level, not only as a doctor, but as a woman too. She went above and beyond her job and showed how much she cares about her patients and the difference she makes. She even called me in the evening as soon as my results came in, to let me know good news as she understood how worried I was. She is such a special person and I wish all doctors were as kind as her. If it wasn’t for her, I might have lost hope but she gave me the strength to keep going. I’m so grateful for everything she did for me.

We couldn’t fault Caroline’s professionalism, knowledge, empathy and support. We were blown away by her confident yet caring support during a very difficult time for me and my family. I would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone, she is one in a million and we felt blessed to have her support.
