Dr Camilleri kept to the appointment time at Spire Hospital (30 mins). He listened carefully during the consultation and took extensive notes of my recent medical history and gave me an examination to better understand my condition (polymyalgia rheumatica)

A good listener, empathetic and holistic in his approach to health and well-being. Often a rarity in traditional medical models of health. Personally I thought the care given was excellent, thank you.

After several years of GPs telling me my hip pain was normal wear and tear, I was extremely please that Dr Camilleri listened to my symptoms, understood the timeline of deterioration, and undertook a hands on examination of my right hip. The doctor was able to make a diagnosis that I had severe arthritis which will likely continue deterioration unless I can eventually have a hip replacement. He was also extremely helpful in identifying which painkillers would best impact the pain and wrote to my GP recommending suitable medication. Doctor Camilleri was professional but polite and friendly. Also what stood out was the way he let me explain my situation in detail before rushing to perform an examination of my hip. I am very happy I took the decision to see Doctor Camilleri and I now feel I am getting somewhere and their is a defined path to follow to get my problem solved.

Profile

I started training in rheumatology as a part of my general medical training at The Royal London Hospital and Newham General Hospital between 1987 and 1989. I was then appointed as Senior Registrar in rheumatology in Cardiff from 1989 to 1995. During this time I obtained a clinical fellowship for two years research into experimental treatments for inflammatory arthritis.

I was appointed Consultant Rheumatologist in 1995 and worked in the East Glamorgan and Llwynpia Hospitals before relocating to Cardiff and Vale Healthboard where I worked as a consultant for 22 years. I was the lead for paediatric rheumatology and saw paediatric patients from the whole of South Wales.

My training background includes diagnosis and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, sports related injuries and soft tissue rheumatism. My main special interest is in connective tissue diseases and paediatric rheumatology.
