Dr Maksoud was recommended to me by a friend who had also been diagnosed with Hypothyroidism & was under his care. My diagnosis came in 2018 when I presented to the GP with extreme fatigue. Bloods were taken which highlighted the problem & I was prescribed the usual Levothyroxine as treatment. Since my initial diagnosis, not once has my GP ever proactively called me or attempted to manage my condition, request further blood tests or provide a review of my medication. I am a career-minded, hard-working individual with something to give & yet there i was on standard treatment with no follow-up assessment, still suffering with quite debilitating & severe symptoms & no support. I could not function properly. Dr Maksoud has been a truly outstanding source of help. His vast experience meant that he actually heard what I was telling him & was able to understand my feelings & translate them into a course of action that would help - not always drug related but lifestyle also. He actually understands what it means to be a Hypothyroid patient. Our reviews are very thorough indeed & he knows what questions to ask so that we can together quickly identify any deterioration or decide upon medical treatment changes. Dr Maksoud is very accessible, personable, approachable & understanding & to be honest, I doubtful that I would receive such a high level of care from an alternative consultant.

As a patient of Dr Maksoud for nearly eight years, and seeing him twice yearly, I am able to say he is one of the best doctors I’ve been treated by. On a personal level he is charming, caring, knowledgeable and attentive. He listens to your concerns properly and gives his advice with clarity and at a level suited to your own understanding of your condition. As a General Physician, as well as an Endocrinologist, he is extremely well rounded and instinctively aware of the bigger picture working with a holistic approach. As well as my main condition, he discovered I had very low Vit D levels and advised taking a specific supplement. This was long before Vit D became ‘popular’. He will look at all aspects of your health and diet if necessary, but won’t just say ‘lose weight’, rather give you evidence based ideas to help make it easier. Similarly with exercise. My overall health is so much better since being under his care. Dr Maksoud is continually educating himself and is bang up to date on what’s happening in the world of Endocrinology and is prepared to make changes to treatment as new evidence emerges. As someone who has worked in Medical Sales for over thirty years, this gives me confidence. Dr Maksoud makes you feel you are on a treatment journey together. Whenever I mention his name to people I hear so many inspirational stories of people who have been ill for years, but have had their lives changed after seeing Dr Maksoud. I know other doctors who seek his advice! I cannot rate him highly enough. He is an exceptional Physician

Up to around my 28th Birthday, I weighed 11 stone and had a 32 in waist. From 28 on-wards I started putting on weight for no apparent reason. I took the normal actions, diet, increased exercise, but to not avail and just kept getting bigger. I visited my GP, he would complete blood tests and diagnose something different every time I went to see him. The last reason I was given that it was my DNA and nothing I could do about it. This was over a period of 10 years! My GP retired and I went in and saw a Nurse Practitioner, who was amazing, immediately picked up on the problem, at this point my readings came back with a critically high sugar reading out of nowhere, I was 17 stone with a 44 in waist and had ballooned over 10 years. I was referred to see Dr Maksoud and after some very detailed tests/scans we found that I had an issue with my hormones. Just knowing that there was an issue and that I wasn't going mad was a massive relief and then it was on to the treatment. I now recommend to anyone who is suffering with their weight and doing everything I did, to get a second opinion and get referred. I often wonder how many people are out there not eating junk food, watching every calorie and exercising hard, who are not seeing the results they deserved for their hard work. Meanwhile there is damage being caused internally, which might no present itself critically until it is too late. I am on a treatment path which has started to correct the damage, but this is going to take while to get me back to how I looked in my twenties, but we are getting there. Dr Maksoud, listens intently, learns about you, describes what is wrong in detail and gives you notes to digest. I see him every 6 months to review results and I hope in time I will get my system back on track thanks to his help. You only live once and remember it is your body and you are responsible for it and sometimes you have to persistent with the NHS. I would recommend you seek second opinions and get referred, even if you have to pay for it yourself, do what ever you can, without your health what do you have!

I first met Hisham Maksoud in 2004 at the Park Hospital, Nottingham when he treated me for pericarditis. My wife and I were immediately impressed by his calm manner, his excellent and very thorough attention to detail, and the re-assuring way that he listened and explained everything about the illness and treatment. I therefore had no hesitation in contacting him again in 2008 when I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes, particularly given that this is one of Hisham's specialisms. I have continued to see Hisham half-yearly ever since, and my wife and I regard him as much a friend as a doctor. He has an excellent manner. He listens carefully, explains everything clearly, and you never feel rushed. I always feel more positive after seeing him. In my view, Hisham is an absolutely excellent doctor and I would not hesitate to recommend him.
