101 Harley Street Surgery operated in a clean and professional manner, with staff who demonstrated genuine care for their patients.
I want to post this as an observation rather than a criticism. Overall, I felt efficiently and effectively cared for. Specifically, three things concern me in relation to my full knee replacement surgery in August of this year:
Firstly, I was astonished at being asked/forced to get out of bed and try to walk on the same day (and within hours) of being operated on. This was attempted twice - once by my day nurse and again during the night. I was in excruciating pain, tearful and I asked/urged the nurses to leave me to rest. They didn't!
Secondly, I was originally booked in to stay three days. I was an inpatient for less than 33 hours.
Finally, my post-surgery review has not taken place as arranged. I was looking forward to this review because I have made such good progress and I was eagerly anticipating a positive conversation with my surgeon. I also wanted to use this review to discuss my other knee (already historically weakened by arthroscopies and debridements) and posit the idea of perhaps a second knee replacement surgery in the future.
My post-surgery review had been arranged for 10:45 on Friday the 5th of December and I had cleared my own diary so that I would be available for this very important discussion. Someone tried to speak to me on Tuesday the 2nd of December, but I was enjoying a celebratory family meal. The person calling put the phone down before I could explain the situation. On the morning of Friday the 5th of December - 30 minutes BEFORE the appointment - someone from the hospital made three attempts to call me, but I was taking my 'constitutional'. I didn't take my phone with me, knowing that I would return home in good time for the appointment.
I am still waiting for my post-surgery review.
I have received excellent care and attention from initial contact all the way through to being discharged.
My consultant, Will Green, is amazing in every way, so knowledgeable, skilful, kind and empathetic; he described and explained the available treatments available for my enlarged prostate in great detail, he also explained the positives and negatives of the procedures so that I was able to make a fully informed choice.
The reception and administration team are so helpful too, addressing any questions I had very quickly and efficiently.
Unfortunately, between my initial consultations and the scheduled date of my operation, I developed some complications. I contacted the hospital and a meeting with Will Green was arranged very quickly and subsequently an Ultrasound scan was squeezed in the next day; a remedy was put in place which addressed the problem.
On the morning of my operation the 2 HCAs, my dedicated nurse Raymond and Will were very reassuring and made me feel at ease with the operation that was about to happen; the anaesthetist was reassuring too!
My dedicated nurse, Raymond, looked after me so well all day and into the early evening. He is knowledgeable, professional and so caring – a real gentleman!
The catering team are great too; the evening meal and breakfast were so tasty!
In conclusion, a very big thank you to everyone at Ramsay Woodthorpe Hospital who enabled me to get through this difficult time; I would recommend this hospital to anyone.
Terrible experience so far. Have excruciating pain and have waited 6 weeks for an appointment only to have it cancelled 4 days before and offered another appointment in another 5 weeks when I e see on their website that the Consultant Mr Panikkar has appointments available to private patients on the 1st,8th and 15 of September. I'm sure if I was to pay they could see me but don't seem interested in patients that the NHS pays them to see.
I have just had a one night stay at the Woodthorpe having a knee replacement. Everything from the appointments to the assessment and finally the operation they couldn't do enough for you . I would highly recommend them. Brilliant staff.
I was admitted to the Woodthorpe Hospital for Aquablation of the prostate under the consultant Mr Philip Goodall on the 9th of June My original admission was the 4th of April at 7am and I duly turned up and was gowned ready for theatre and the operation was cancelled as the representative of the company who own the computer system had got his dates mixed up (not a good start)
However back to the 9th of June and all went well with the operation and I was under great care of the nursing team Special mention to Lucy Jacks who was amazing along with Nthabi who looked after me on nights and Naiomi, Kayleigh Cathrine and Lorna who looked after me with meals
There was one nurse Anam (if this is the correct spelling) who was lacking in my opinion in bedside manners and on two occasions i asked for hygiene wipes and they never appeared also she was non communicative and rarely spoke when she came in the room
I was not discharched the next day as normal as my bleeding through the cathtar was still strong and I was eventually discarchrged on the Thursday the 12th
On the Friday I was still concerned with the blood colour I called the hospital and the nurse called Mr Goodall who had recommended I go to City hospital where he had organised with one of the team there to see me and do a bladder flush
I was not happy with this solution and I spoke with Mr Goodall and explained my frustration at the only pathway it seems if your discharged form the Woodthorpe after this type of surgery is to go to City Hospital as they have no back up there on Friday or the weekend
My point to this is in my opinion if Woodthorpe are going to offer this surgery they need to back it up 100% in their own hospital
It shouldn't be you start of private and end up in the NHS hospital with respect to the NHS why should they treat me
Unfortunately at this stage I could not recommend having this surgery there at Woodthorpe until they have the complete A-Z of treatment especialy if it starts to go wrong as often surgery does
I have had no issue with the Consultant or the nursing staff, the issue I have is with the hospitals aftercare
I had a laproscopic hysterectomy performed by Mr Ghosh on 30th January 25. The care recieved at The Woodthorpe and by Mr Ghosh was excellent and it was the best decision to have my treatment there.
Highly recommended. All the staff were amazing and so lovely. They couldn't do enough for me and it is down to Mr Ghosh and the outstanding care from the Nurses that my recovery has been so quick and problem free.
A special mention to Theresa in bloods...I am petrified of needles and she had to do various bloods in the lead up to the operation and I didn't even notice that she'd done them!! She even popped up to see me after I'd had me operation. Thank you
Thank you to everyone at The Woodthorpe
Dr Ghosh was fantastic at listening to my symptoms and really thorough with all explanations. I needed my coil removing as it had perforated my uterus and some treatment for endometriosis. Despite being nervous about the operation, Dr Ghosh was really patient and informed of all the steps and reassuring and the operation went well and the aftercare was fantastic.
Amazing experience throughout. Great facilities and care provided throughout in a manner that can only be dreamt of for many including myself depending on your previous experiences likely NHS based. Thank you so much to all staff at Woodthorpe, you are amazing!
Superb care from the initial consultation through to surgery and follow-up.
Mr Ghosh made me feel at ease and well informed throughout
