Movicol

Probably the best of the many medicines for constipation - which is why it's becoming more common for it to be prescribed in primary care I guess. Fybogel used to be the go to for many GPs but this is often better. Non habit forming, in theory, as it's an osmotic laxative - the large molecule of the constituent substance draws water into the bowel
After two mouth cancer operations I am now totally fed by a tube directly into my stomach. I suffer from constipation a great deal but with Movicol which I can take through my stomach tube it is always under control so invaluable to me and extremely effective
Take time to get used to how it works, and adjust doseage according to what is needed/what diet you have etc, AND, as stated by doctor at the time of beginning the treatment.
I was using fybogel for IBS related constipation but found it was starting to make the problem worse so Dr swapped me over to this instead. It has completely relieved the problem and now a maintenance dose of 1 sachet a day has continued to maintain a normal function.
