My wheelchair is my shoes and needs to suits my whole life - my social and clinical needs. I don't think my wheelchair was tailored to my needs. Every wheelchair i've ever received from the NHS I needed to be pushed in when I have always considered myself able to self-propel with e-motion wheels - power-assisted technology that is available from providers like Whizz-Kidz. I didn't want to lose the fitness that I had, that's why I looked and began to appreciate the superiority of equipment provided elsewhere. Whizz-Kidz, from whom I have received my last two chairs, are faster, more understanding, in a position to provide more specialised equipment and do so on a more cost-efficient basis. Every NHS Wheelchair Service could learn a lot from looking into and implementing Whizz-Kidz model.
