From any hours of waiting in Wythenshawe A&E I have noticed. that when nurses call out the name of the patient they wish to treat they generally do so from the back of the Reception area I.e. they do not come forward to the entrance to the Waiting room. Bearing in mind that the noise level in the reception and waiting areas is often raised and that older patients in particular may well have reduced hearing, it can be difficult to distinguish names. The problem is more noticeable with the lighter voices of female nurses but it would surely help patients if all nurses took a few extra steps to the entrance to the Waiting room before speaking. Apart from improved clarity this would be a more personal approach than the present system. I hope you will give this serious consideration - its implementation will cost nothing!
