I have found a very mixed bag with my dealings with the staff at the Maelor. There is clearly issues with communication between nurses and doctors. One of my biggest frustrations in the wards I have seen is the nurses of all ranks appear to congregate outside of the wards around what seems like a main desk area. They only attend the room to take example a bp measurement and then return to the main desk. A good example of this would be in award on the 6th June. A vulnerable gentleman got out of his bed but did not have his walking frame and wanted to be helped to get ready for sleep so was looking for a nurse to help. He fell backwards crashing into equipment and cupboards and injuring his elbow which resulted in quite a nasty gash. Within seconds on hearing the loud noise of the fall approx. 7 nurses of all ranks were around the poor patient. My disappointment was if there was proper patient care they would have understood the patients’ needs and spotted the signs of this poor man standing unaided. The help buzzer does not appear to be acted upon I have heard this sounding in several wards for upwards of 5mins. It’s clear some staff are not motivated and don’t enjoy their chosen roles its more about getting through the day. vulnerable patients hang onto every word and a two-minute conversation with the doctor can make so much difference to them. I realise this is not always possible, but sometimes it is and means so much to the patient, the information from the nurse appears to be sketchy or they don't know. this hospital has gone downhill, A rejected mattress has been sitting gathering dust outside one the wards on the floor for the best part of a week. walk around the 2nd floor you will see it b-wave I believe. this demonstrates lack of care or time. due to whatever is motivating the staff it’s my believe it’s a bit of both now. in summary the Senior doctors appear to be holding things together, but the day to day people are struggling to make the experience for the patient and also confidence for the family happen we would all be lost without the nhs and it saddens me to see this happen, I know of agencies charging thousands of pounds per week for staff to Wrexham maelor who may only do one day per week in some cases. But the hourly rate is a lot higher than the fulltime staff. how can they give the same care as a motivated nurse? fairly paid staff will look after our nhs, demotivated people will ruin it thank you for reading my message
