Admitted through And E at 7am Monday. Kept in ambulance for about 5 hours but looked after wonderfully by paramedics for who m nothing was too much trouble. Seen by very kind and thorough young doctor whilst still in ambulance . Withyybushad urgent mri. Found to have extensive metastases. News was broken very kindly. By 5.00pm had seen consultant and transferred to ward 10 where despite coping with post weekend rush was looked after very well. Cut long story short had to stay until Friday but kept informed and reassured. During this stay I had chest xray, mri, ct scan and flexi sigmoidoscopy. This last was extremely frightening for me but Iwas wonderfully supported by the endoscopy team. All the staff I had dealing swith on ward 10 were very good and not afraid to show human warmth and professionalism plus teamwork which can only be down to good leadership. I saw specialist nurses. All emphasised that I would be in control and Iwas even shown my chest and brain images which were a shock but at least Iknew the truth. The only slight criticism I have is that messages about me didnt always get handed over. But given the pressure they were under this was understandable. The other thing was the amount of paperwork imposed on the nurses. My pathway changed several times . During this I was always kept informed . I do believe if you are sensible and reasonable and appreciate the pressure that the staff are under you will not be disappointed. All in all the care at Withybush was far better than I received in a well known west country hospital.
