The staff where friendly and welcoming supplying a good level of info throughout, however we where disappointed in the attention to detail. We where concerned that the birth plan was not read and felt awkward mentioning that she did not want a male midwife or students at time of labour, why have a birth plan if its not going to be acknowledged and used where possible. We also felt that labour was drawn out by administering pethadine prior to examination which would have perhaps led to another form of pain relief as she was already at 10cm when this was given. A 3rd degree tear also occured and when asked why a small cut was not carried out it was not clear why this did not happen as alot of the signs where there, First vaginal birth/induced/second stage of labour was longer/baby was at a slightly funny angle. I fully understand that this is not common practice but some clear explanation would of helped. Overall the experience will not be forgotten very quickly.
