I saw a physiotherapist called Adam. When I told him that I hadn’t done certain exercises because they exacerbated my pain, he threatened to cancel all future appointments if I didn’t do them. Every week he told me different exercises to do and showed me but when I showed him what I had been doing, he told me I was doing them wrong. At no time did he give me any print outs, so each time he told me my technique was wrong. Then he told me that he had told me to use weights when he hadn’t. He told me that I had to either buy weights or go to my gym every day which I believe is an unreasonable expectation. When I turned up for today’s appointment I was told it had been cancelled even though I had a reminder by text five days before. My two further appointments had also been cancelled and the appointments offered to other patients. Adam’s first words to me were ‘I thought we agreed not to have any further appointments’. He then backtracked and told me that ‘the system had cancelled my appointments’. The appointments that I had booked were convenient for me as they were before work and fitted in around my holiday. However all he had to offer me were two appointments at the time I was away. He promised me a call today but that didn’t happen. There are notices all over the clinic warning patients not to miss an appointment or be late. However it seems that three appointments can be cancelled by ‘the system’ with no recourse. The system cannot cancel appointments only the people operating it can.
