Share review of Watford General Hospital
As soon as I arrived at the hospital dermatology department for my appointment, they told me that an interpreter had been booked in for me by the doctor, even though I did not ask for one and did not need one.
I was quite shocked, as I have been living in the UK for so many years now and this is the first time that this has happened to me.
I believe that the fact that I am not originally English gave them the right to assume that I did not have any knowledge of the English language and that I required an interpreter during my visit. I would also like to point out that I did actually graduated in Interpreting and Translation myself in my home country and I honestly find such behaviour from the hospital staff quite concerning and offensive.
The doctor who visited me was also incredibly rude and patronising; when I refused to take off my clothes as she asked me, as I only wanted some of my body parts to be examined during the visit, she kept making nasty remarks and wasn't even paying any attention to what I was saying. In the end the doctor told me I was "free to escape" (using these exact words), which I found totally inappropriate. After this bad experience, I genuinely hope I will never come across that doctor again.
