The two documents, Your Operation and Your Pathway written by Bowel Cancer UK ,supplied were very useful but lacked information in two areas: 1) What to take with you was written from a female prospective e.g. No shaving toiletries were suggested. (minor) 2) Both documents mentioned light meals but gave no detail or time intervals involved. Copies of https://www.thh.nhs.uk/documents/_Patients/PatientLeaflets/dietetics/Low_Residue_Diet.pdf or similar should have been given at the same time. This would have meant: a) Adequate supplies of the ingredients could be purchased in advance of the need The Diet could be adopted in the two days preceding the op b) When ordering meals on the ward the patient would know what they are allowed (This would also be helped if the app used by the person taking the order had a low residue option, thus ensuring there was no waste of food incorrectly ordered because of lack of knowledge of patient/order taker)
