I spent most of my working life overseas and was twice hospitalized by health emergencies requiring immediate operations : firstly in Bangkok, Thailand and then in Nanaimo, Canada. The treatment was excellent on both occasions. I returned to the UK in 2009 and was apprehensive about the service I could expect in hospitals in later life this in this country after all the adverse reports circulated by the media and individuals. I now consider them to be exaggerated and unfair. I think myself to have been very fortunate taking up residence in Warrington where I have nothing but praise and well earned gratitude for the NHS : I am in my 80s and have always been treated caringly with excellent attention both from GPs and hospital personnel. My appraisal is that, contrary to publicly expressed opinions which leads one to make premature judgement, little or nothing could be subject to improvement in this medium size town, although I am sure that treatment in Warrington cannot be representative of treatment in the country as a whole. To date, it has not fallen far short of the private hospital treatment which I received in Thailand nor the MSP medical services plan) treatment which I had experienced in Canada. Congratulations to Warrington and Halton hospitals for the high standard they set.
