I think having a home birth was the best choice I have ever made... Also, it has been great being able to have all the post natal care at home too. With my first child, I had to attend all those appointments at GP surgery or at the Royal London Hospital. Just getting out of bed those first few weeks after giving birth can be such an effort, and if you are struggling with breast feeding or pains or mental issues then having to attend this appointments can be very difficult. So i am very pleased with not having to leave the house for post natal care. In addition to this, I would like to say that it is imperative that the mother educates herself in preparation for the labour - Spinning Babies is a great source for this

We had a great experience with the TH Homebirth team, for the birth of our first child. We saw the same midwife - the lovely Caitlin - throughout our appointments before and after the birth, all in our own home, which was so relaxed and convenient. Caitlin was able to spend as long as we needed each visit to discuss anything we wanted to and help with practical bits postnatally. So different from the more rushed appointments at the hospital and GP. Appointments were usually arranged by text too, which was so easy. We met the whole team, and so knew everyone by the time the birth came, and were happy for anyone to look after us. For the actual birth we were attended at home as needed by the team, with great support and hands on care. Ultimately we transferred to hospital at our request, as our labour was taking too long, but the team made that very smooth too. And we still received lovely postnatal care at home. There was never any pressure or issue, before, during or after the birth if we wanted to transfer to hospital, the team always made it clear that our wishes were central. We feel like we have an ongoing relationship with the team and an extended community which is so great and rare.
