I had an appalling experience at The Wellington South. Following major surgery and directly after a night in the High Dependency Unit, they put me in a room with construction work going on in the hospital right under my room. When I complained, they told me that they had no other rooms available, so I asked to speak to the Manager who then allocated me a new room. This would not have happened if I hadn't complained vehemently. I spent 2 nights on the ward and the staff were terrible. They had no idea of the type of surgery I had had and continually asked me if I wanted breakfast, lunch and dinner inspite of the fact that I had just had surgery where I had to be on liquids only. I was given incorrect information at my pre-assessment with the nurse which caused me a lot of stress and anxiety and the nurses on the ward continually forgot which medications they had given me and kept asking me to remind them. The nurses were disinterested, badly informed (some of them had no idea of why I was having pain in certain areas of my body), the liquid soup I was given was revolting and I could have been offered tea and coffee as an alternative, but this never happened. There was no handover between nurses and the drilling which had taken place in my first room recommenced in my new room on the 2nd day, but I was too poorly to complain by that point. As a private patient who paid a considerable amount of money for my surgery, I was disgusted with the standard of care at The Wellington South. I received better care on the NHS ! I wouldn't recommend this hospital or service to anyone. I will be writing an official letter of complaint to the Chief Executive Mr Neil Buckley and will be requesting a refund for my 2 nights stay.
