My husband was left in severe pain for 22 hours because of a mistake by staff. He was not given prescribed acid-suppressant medicine because it would interfere with a scan he was due to have a few hours later. However, the medicine had already been signed out before they realised he couldn't have it at that time. When he returned from the scan and began to get worsening pain due to not having had the medication, he was told he couldn't have it now because it had already been signed out that morning and hadn't been signed back in again. So my husband was left in pain for a further 10 hours until he was finally given it at 5am the following day. By then, it had no effect so he was then left in pain for a further 9 hours until a doctor could be found to examine him and prescribed him - 2 paracetamol! Three hours later, it took another family member visiting him to ask 5 times for a doctor to come and administer stronger pain relief before this actually happened and the pain finally started to subside.
