I so wanted my recent short stay (Alcohol Detox) at Hayes Grove to work. I knew it would not be some luxury spa experience, and that detox would be difficult and often unpleasant. But I did not expect what I found. Medication times completely disregarded - and when I asked why, this is so distressing - just told "oh it depends what else we are doing". I consider myself polite, articulate and reasonable - but I was made to feel that it was ridiculous to question this. When of course there was a manned nursing station to question, which often there was not. Which is hardly safe..
I believe there is a shortage of MH nurses - but there seemed to be money to refurbish all the public areas of the hospital without investing in patient care.
May be fine for NHS/insurance patients - but if you are self funding like me - and unless you have a very good and pro-active Consultant Psychiatrist - I would think long and hard before considering Hayes Grove.
