The surgeons, anaesthetists, pre assessment nurses, reception staff and operating staff were fantastic. The ward staff gave me adequate medical treatment, but they need some further ‘nursing’ skills in order to CARE for their patients properly. An example to indicate what I mean is putting the bed table on the side of the bed where a patient can reach things on it. I had a nerve block on my right arm and felt pretty helpless. Also trying to open the packet of salt or open the hot water flask with your left hand is impossible……I had to ask a visiting doctor to help. There are further incidents were there was a lack of thought and understanding. Overall care adequate for safety but I had a hip replacement at The Nuffield, Haywards Heath and the nursing team there were super with my medical needs and they ‘cared’ for me as well which what I thought nursing was all about.
