My First night after surgery was spent on Wivenhoe Ward. I found the night staff on this ward not too pleasant as when I asked for a hot drink at 4am because my mouth and throat were a little sore and I was unable to drink cold drinks, when I asked I was reminded that I had been given a hot drink at midnight. I asked again at just gone 4am I was told ''its not the staff nurses job to make a hot drink and there are other patients, i was only asking for a hot drink i wasn't asking for a bed bath or any help it was just a hot drink and at that time of the morning there weren't many patients awake. It made me feel teary to say the least. I was thankful to be moved to Mersea Elective Care Ward the following day, the staff were so different, very caring with lovely bedside manners. I was looked after by a health care assistant called Mark, unfortunately i cannot remember the the other staff names but they were all pleasant and approachable even though all their patients were awake most of the night. A little staff training on Wivenhoe ward wouldn't go a miss as not once did the night staff ask myself or any of the other ladies on the 4 bed ward that i was on if we were OK or needed anything . The ward itself was very clean but it could be quite boring for long term patients as there was no bed TV for hire.
