As a nurse, I was really shocked at the care I recieved at the Woman's Centre on 31st October. I arrived for an outpatient hysteroscopy, but was advised to go to the ward. On arrival, I was told that I was having a General Anaesthetic by both the HCA and then the Senior Registrar. When I told them that I was told this was an OP Procedure and that I had been told specifically to eat and drink that morning, they had to go and check. Finally it was confirmed that I would have the procedure awake with no sedation - which was what I was expecting. I had at least 10 people in theatre with me, some were trainees, but very few introduced themselves. I then went through a very traumatic procedure that necessitated a Gynae Consultant to come into theatre, who never introduced herself. A Mirena Coil was inserted, but right from the outset I didn't think it was placed correctly. A week later, I've had to have the coil removed at my GPs Surgery and yesterday had to phone 111 and be seen by an emergency GP as I was bleeding so heavily. It seems that the traumatic procedure has given me an infection and I have been started on antibiotics and hormones to stop the bleeding. It has left me with very little confidence to go back to the John Radcliffe under the Gynaecology Team.
