I was having a hysterectomy, I had to report to the day surgery unit, I asked if I was being admitted after my op, and was told it depends whether a bed was booked, this is not what you want to hear just before an operation, I actually stayed 2 nights, the staff were mostly very caring, but not really helpful when I was leaving, was told I would need blood thinning injections whilst waiting for medication before leaving the ward, I was not shown how to do these injections, nor was I given a sharps box, I had to wait over 5 hours for medication from the hospital pharmacy, when I was able to eventually leave the ward I had to carry my own bag down to the entrance where my daughter had to wait, while I understand covid restrictions I was not happy having to carry my bag after this kind of operation, I was also given no aftercare instructions. I think when people go to hospital for surgery they want to know what will happen not the uncertainty of have I got a bed after, a hysterectomy is quite major surgery, some aftercare should be given about what you should and should not do
