From the day my wife arrived it seemed no one would listen to her or family. I kept asking to be told what was going only to be told there was no Dr apart from the Dr in A&E. On the AMU I reminded the nurse that I needed to be contacted before she was discharged to make sure I had the care package in place only to be told by the nurse i didn't have to be informed, however after my I told the nurse that it was part of the discharge pathway to involve carers, the nurse then changed her mind and said yes I would be contacted, but I wasn't asked if it was OK or asked did i have things in place, I was just told when my wife was going to be discharged, and in fact i don't know who but someone told by daughter-in-law that I had not been answering my phone and they had tried an number of times. I did NOT receive any phone calls, and when my wife was moved 5 times over two days I made sure that the nurse had my number and my daughter - in laws even though the nurse said there was only one number, again not true as I was shown the two numbers on the paperwork by a nurse. There is a big break down in communication with the staff, I was told that my wife was not eating or drinking and needed to eat and drink more, this seemed stupid because I had told the Dr and the nurses that she was not able to eat and drink something she wanted to do, again I was told to make sure she had something to eat and drink, but the nurse and healthcare staff did not seem to understand why she was not eating, I told them that she will eat anything but can't because of the pain. My wife is deaf and has an implant I had shown some staff how to fit the magnet to the head, a simple thing a child can do it, however my wife was left deaf all morning because your staff could not do this simple thing and just gave up, i wonder how they would feel being left deaf for a number of hours. When i was told she was being discharged I asked had the pain now gone, the nurse didn't know, was she coming home with her new meds, i had to keep repeating this as all he kept on about was her old meds, after sometime i did get to him to be told no they had been let down by the Pharmacy and they would have a Courier deliver it, i asked when to be told no later than 7pm again i asked is that 100% yes by 7pm, and 7:15 pm in had no arrived so we called the hospital to told its there best to drive all the way over to collect it. I have to say this is the worst stay my wife has had to put up with in any hospital, the staff to busy on their mobile phones playing games, yes playing games, I had to call one health care assistant as a poor old lady in another bed was trying to get out of the bed. The food not fit for a dog to eat, and the ward Cherry was one of them could have been cleaner.
