This was a virtual workshop that did not involve my child but once I clicked i had to answer so most of the questions are irrelevant. I was however very disappointed with the tone of the workshop. At the start we were in my opinion 'lectured' about how this course was not available everywhere so we should be grateful. As a parent of a SEN child I spend most of my time feeling like I am thrown scraps from professionals due to lack of funding and huge waiting times. Usually this is the system and not the individuals but that did not feel the case today. I was made to feel that I should be grateful for something that is a service to meet the needs of my child. This should be available everywhere and perhaps the professionals energy would be better directed at that than the people fighting for their children. The content of the workshop is very 'blanket' in content and each individual childs needs are so different that I was expecting a more one to one approach to support them. I know what SM is I just have little idea how to specifically help my child.

Suggested improvements
Specific examples and how to overcome but that may come in future workshops

Response from St Mary's Hospital

Thank you for your comments, which I have passed to the service manager. What you experienced is not the message we want to portray and I am sorry this is how we made you feel. Best wishes, Hugh Jones, Patient experience Manager.
