Gina Maddams was absolutely wonderful and has always been very professional in her approach. She assessed my daughter in a timely manner, ensured the teachers were using her resources appropriately and taught parents and staff how to use the resources she shared with us. She called us after every visit and assessment that was done in school and provided us with invaluable feedback about the assessment, our daughter's progress and clearly identified the next steps. She also ensured that we as parents were comfortable with the next steps which made us feel like our opinion mattered. Her resources had different levels as she knew that my daughter was at completely different levels at home and school giving us an opportunity to expose our daughter to higher level material to keep her brain stimulated at a good level. Moreover her assessment was based on her own observation of my child and she did not rely only on feedback given by the school and parents, to write her report. Ever since she has been my daughter's speech therapist, there has been a significant progress in my Kaitlyn's language skills. We are forever grateful for all the work she has done. This is the best service we have received and we hope that she is recognised for her good work with SEN children and schools.

Suggested improvements
Nothing as the service was exceptional. On a county level, we feel that certain schools require training from SLT as their lack of understanding results in them not always delivering the targets according to the advice given by SLT. This results in children having a setback because the teachers lack knowledge and skills to help SEN children.

Response from St Mary's Hospital

We are currently reviewing the training we provide to education staff with regards to SALT targets. In the past we have provided training to all schools in the county via our 'Talking Success,' programme. We are hoping to provide similar training in the future.
