I was admitted to this ward with meningitis. From coming onto this ward it was immediately apparent everyone knew exactly what they were doing and were doing everything to the book. In a previous job I used to work selling infection control products to hospitals. One of the biggest battles hospitals seem to face is accountability when it comes to infection control and the amount of importance clinicians place on adhering to infection control procedures. My other half was visiting in the morning and was dressed for work. One of the clinicians suspected he was a doctor and quizzed him about his hand washing, gloves and apron. What this highlights is textbook attitudes to infection prevention and something I just had to write about. It's so hard to question someone you don't know about their hand washing etc but it was done to adhere to guidelines and protect patients. So often in my job you hear stories of how clinicians are too busy and don't appreciate the importance of infection control - not on this ward. I hope the person who did this gets the feedback from management they deserve. I felt very safe here and cant imagine being on a ward where everyone is so on the ball.
