Review of Cardiac Imaging (MRI & CT) - SBH written by a patient
8th January 2018

I was referred for a CT angiogram. The lengthy wait is the only reservation I have about the entire process; it was approximately 3 months. My appointment was scheduled for 4 January, and I was worried because of the news that all NHS outpatient appointments for January 2018 were to be cancelled. But I gather that the Heart Centre is a stand alone unit, and its routine has not been disrupted. From the moment I arrived, I was hugely impressed by the quiet professionalism of everyone in the Heart Centre. I was seen exactly on time. Everyone involved was outstanding. This is surely an example of the NHS at its very best, where excellence is what drives the organisation. If only that were true elsewhere. When I compare my local hospitals, their demoralised staff and appalling conditions, it's hard to believe one is receiving care from the same overall body, the NHS. Apart from the excellent staff at all levels, the new building itself is handsome and well-maintained, a noble addition to a hospital that has been on this site since mediaeval times.

Review of Fertility Outpatients - SBH written by a patient
5th January 2018

Appointments never ran on time and when you were seen the nurses would speak to one another or provide information to you as if reading from a script. It isn’t very nice laying there during a scan not being told directly how things are going. There was no personal care what so ever during clinic appointments and I felt like I was on a conveyor belt on each appointment. Considering the level of success rates for IVF there should be more information and discussion preparedness for bad news. It was as if they didn’t want to talk about it. The after care wasn’t much better. I received a call from a member of the team who I had never seen or spoken to and was told how sorry she was the treatment was unsuccessful. This call came 24 hours after informing the clinic. Was I really supposed to believe their compassion considering they didn’t even know me?! It seemed all they were interested in was getting me back in for an appointment to discuss self funded treatment. Counselling was offered, I received a call two weeks later and was told only phone calls were available but couldn’t say when I would receive one. I don’t take any of this personally but sadly feel that this is the way the clinic operates to see as many patients as they can each day. Resourcing and volume is obviously an issue but if one thing could change I would suggest being seen and spoken to by the same nurse throughout your treatment. It’s a very anxious time and waiting for sometimes up to an hour for your appointment and then not really having the chance to talk to the nurse once you are seen does not help. I hope my comments can be taken constructively and acknowledged for any possible future improvements.

I attend the Endocrinology department under Professor Korbonits annually for follow-up monitoring. I'm always treated promptly and courteously by all the staff on Francis Fraser Ward, and made to feel that my wellbeing is important and cared about. I can't fault my treatment, the facilities, the back-up, and the sense of a great team working for my care. It's very reassuring. Many thanks to all I have crossed paths with over the 36 years since I was diagnosed!

I really do not consider myself qualified to make this judgment because it involves the infirmity of another but my treatment was skillfully and sympathetically handled. At my age and with my condition I am little concerned with privacy. WD

Just would like to say thank you to the nurse who patched up my chin last Thursday 21 December at 8am after I slipped on the way into work. Many thanks and sorry to take up your time. Best wishes Charlie Patrick

I really liked how, even when I was on the table waiting to be examined, the doctor asked first before opening the gown. How courteous!
