It's not possible to be more worried about the procedure to my foot than I was. My blood pressure went so high before the operation and it was all down to nerves. I was having an MTJ fusion to my foot. I was scared about all of it - what I'd feel, how I would cope after as I live on my own, would I be able to swim and ski after - everything. I elected to have a nerve blocker and sedation which was fantastic. A nurse stayed with me (James) all the way through it and the anaesthetist explained everything to me. I knew my foot was having something done to it but I didn't have even the slightest painful sensation. Nothing. I know I even dozed off at one point. I did feel some pain later at night but a nurse brought me pain relief meds and since then I've had no pain at all. I went home the next day and followed all instructions. I'd recommend buying a plastic foot stocking (only a couple of pounds) so you can shower easily but the reality of the op has been so much better than the imagined discomfort or difficulty. Seven weeks on and the scar is barely visible. I could swim easily after the wound healed (3 wks) and I can even get my ski boots on which is something I would not have thought possible.
