I had a series of leaks from my Ileostomy that resulted in nsome raw skin and I was unable to attach my appliance.I rang an old number I had for the local Stoma nurse and was connected to Harriet. I explained the situation and she was with me in 2 hours.
She recommended a solution, and as we were travelling to a wedding in the South of England reassured me it should be ok.
She phoned that evening to check I was ok.
I was followed up by Lisa a few days later who introced a seaweek dressing and over the coming days this accelerated the healing process and afgter 13 days it has almost healed completed.
I have had my Ileostomy almost 30 years and I am still using the 2 piece system that was recommended after the surgery. I had some discussions with Lisa and after trying a one piece system am inteding switching once I have used up my exisiting stock.

After major surgery, visits and support by the community stoma nurses was necessary. The nurses were friendly, professional, discussed whatever issues one raised and inspired confidence. Their support was reliable and they ensured that everything worked properly. Their advice and offer to take phone calls if necessary in the future was very reassuring. I was most grateful and thank them for all they did to help me.
All of the staff that I have seen in the SALTS Team have been professional and courteous in their approach. Messages have been answered promptly and advice freely given. Solutions to problems have been quick and supplies provided in a timely manner.
The SALTS Team members that I have dealt with have certainly made the surprise of getting a stoma a far less problematic experience than I envisaged.
