I had brilliant care on the AMU and Emergency Surgical Unit - Hunter Ward. I was really impressed with the level of care I received - especially on Hunter Ward. The nurse [name removed] on Hunter Ward (there are two but the one with short hair cut into a bob) is an excellent nurse and I am so thankful for her. She was there for me when I thought I might be having a miscarriage and reassured me that it looked like it was just a little pink from the catheter. She went out of her way to make me comfortable by making me a cuddle cushion for when I needed to cough so my tummy didn’t pull and she cared for me so well after my operation. She made me feel welcome and at ease. She is a wonderful nurse who made me feel calm and safe when I was at my most vulnerable. If I needed anything, she got it straight away without delay. It was clear that she truly cares about her patients and she does an excellent job.

Suggested improvements
Making sure that people who have dietary requirements are provided well for at dinner and lunches. On AMU ward, we weren’t given menus to choose from. The food just arrived and we had to say what we would like. A deaf lady on my bay had lots of allergies but she wasn’t given an alternative menu to choose from in advance. She often didn’t get to eat much food for dinner or lunch. One evening, the only option she was able to choose because of her allergies was the pudding crackers and cheese which was a very small meal - two crackers and some cheese. I think this would be something that could be improved on even though it’s not directly related to me.
