Family member admitted. Negative experience from day one. Very little kindness and compassion among some staff, sometimes rude, and disrespectful. Although it was clear they were short staffed, staffing levels are a Trust issue, but it often seemed like they just didn’t want to be there. Nursing used to be a vocation, now it just seems to be a job for some. Poor communication throughout, never anyone around to speak to. Often nobody would get back to you. Important information relating to patients needs overlooked.

Suggested improvements
Trust need to focus on increasing staffing levels, but please try and recruit people who genuinely want to work in a hospital, I’m sure most do but not all. See patients as individuals, not generalise as what seems to be happening. Ensure their personal needs are met. Communicate better, and listen to concerned relatives. Senior staff need to spend more time on the floor, to see what really goes on.
