I dont blame the staff at all in this, but the department is an absolute shambles, understaffed and under-resourced, there was people waiting for basic needs: 1) A 95-year old lady who had a suspected heart attack was left waiting for over 12 hours, even being physically sick in the waiting room and not one member of staff could/would even help. It was left to the other patients to help clean her up, get tissues and bowls etc 2) A man needed an IV drip for Pneumonia, and was told he just had to wait for a bed to become free for him to start this treatment, estimated wait 12 hours 3) At least 2 people had been advised that their scans had been "lost" and at least 3 people just walked out. I was in the department for a total of 15 hours and when I enquired as to how long it will be until I see someone the answer was "Nobody knows", I am also diabetic and said that going this long without food is not good for my health to which the nurse replied "There's a vending machine there", suggesting that I have either chocolate or crisps, really? I had 3 ECGs and when I enquired after 3 hours about the result, I was called in an asked to do another ECG, I assume the last one was lost as well. When being discharged, the doctor called me in and apologised for not taking basic blood tests when I first came in, really?

Suggested improvements
Actuallly have some way of giving people an idea of waiting times, it is really frustrating to be told, we have no idea, for example I could have got someone to bring me some food in if it was going to be a long time. Have a process in place that you dont lose scans and results, is it that difficult. Treat people like humans, dont let an old lady sit there being sick all over herself. Only the final doctor showed any sort of empathy and told me what was happening, what was next and what to expect, before that it was just a complete guessing game, I couldn't even get confirmation I was still in the "queue"
