I was sent to Queens Hospital on advice of 111 GP as I had severe breathing difficulties. Knowing what I know about the appalling state of Queens Hospital A&E, I asked the GP to prescribe me and inhaler and spacer which she did. I managed to obtain the inhaler and use it. When I got to the A&E department, the corridors were overflowing with patients. The department looked small and cramped and what few staff were there seemed to spend all their time looking at computer screens rather than seeing patients. There was a total lack of prioritisation of severely ill people above non urgent cases. Had I not obtained the inhaler from 111 GP I would have passed out without being seen. As I had an inhaler I decided to take my chances at home and left after 2 hours without being seen.

Suggested improvements
Re organise A&E, staff it properly, resize it to meet demand. The hospital bullding itself seems small with a sub optimal layout. Plenty of corridors, tiny departments.
