Review of Amber Ward A

Unfortunately I have been admitted to hospital a few times in my life, but this has been my best experience ever. Wonderful staff, amazing service, genuinely couldn't ask for better.

Review of Queen's Birth Centre

Staff members were extremely polite and helpful. All of my questions were answered and I knew what was happening at every stage of my labour as the midwives/nurses/doctors explained every step and asked me for my consent. Very happy with my experience at the labour ward. Special thanks to Kay who was there through my delivery and after, she is a true professional and a great person. Thanks to my midwife Sabna who was with me through my pregnancy, she is great. I'm happy with my experience at Queen's. (Patient - Zina Tsitskieva)

1. When I called the hospital for the first time on the second day of my contractions, I said that the app that I used for timing contractions (called Contraction timer & counter 9m) was misleading me. I felt like it was time for me to go to the hospital as the interval between my contractions was 1.5-2 mins and each contraction lasted for 3-4 mins. The app calculated the interval between the start of one contraction and the beginning of the next one. I believed the interval should be calculated from the end of one contraction till the beginning of the next one. The person on the phone said I should trust the app. I now realise that I was right and the app mislead me as it continued telling me to stay home even when I was 10cm dilated. I should have arrived at the hospital earlier. 2. Reception staff should work more quickly. The person at the reception in Blue zone seemed like she didn't know what she was doing when I arrived with strong contractions and 10cm dilation. It took too long from the moment I arrived till I got to the labour ward as we had to wait for nurse/midwife/doctor. It felt like the staff were having a break and did not want to come down to me.

I had to book an appointment with the plaster room as my cast had become quite loose where some swelling had gone down. It was straightforward making the appointment organized by Parvinder. On arrival, my cast was examined by Parvinder & Mike where Mike said it would have to be removed once a Doctor had signed that it could be removed. Parvinder then removed it very efficiently & Mark applied my new cast, allowing me to sprinkle glitter over it for some personalisation. Then to Radiography for several x-rays to make sure my wrist & thumb were in the correct position in the cast,(they were), & back to the plaster room to wait for those results before they could let me go. Everyone was very efficient, professional, cheerful & considerate.

While I'd like to be able to answer this....I really can't think of anything that could have been done better for this visit.

My mother has mobility issues and is hard of hearing. Every care was taken to make sure she was seen as quickly as possible and that the dr spoke clearly to her so she could understand.

Suggested improvements
Was unable to get her prescription at the pharmacy which caused a delay getting it filled.
