A and E was very busy and staff all seemed to be working hard, however, I spent over 15 hours there, I had a blood test, urine test and CT scan. I had to ask for updates as I was just siting around for hours with no information. I was told by another patient when I eventually went down to the CT scan that one of the machines was broken. This was clearly causing delays but no one mentioned this to me. Lack of communication can cause distress and upset. I feel that this could be improved. It was nice to be offered sufficient food and drinks during my visit. I had sandwiches and biscuits but hot food was also available.

Suggested improvements
Communication is key. People will be more patient if they are made aware of significant issues that will cause delays. The plastic chairs are so uncomfortable, it’s very hard for someone in pain to sit in these chairs for many many hours. I have a number of crohnic health issues and found the chairs extremely uncomfortable. Cushions may help mitigate this or perhaps the government can provide more funding to pay for decent chairs.
