The A&E department is not fit for purpose. It is far too small and under staffed to cope with the amount of people who are using the service. This is not the fault of the medical staff who were, on the whole, fantastic but a symptom of a bigger issue. This does however, create a knock on effect for patients. My overall time spent in A&E was 15hrs and it felt like I was in a makeshift field hospital from a war zone. I had to ask for pain relief, i was not offered it, and when I was prescribed something I was still waiting for it after 45-50mins. I approached the Nurses station to ask if I could have what had been prescribed and was told ‘we’ll get around to it’. I was in tears with my pain and had to beg to get the pain relief I was prescribed which I eventually received another 20 minutes later. I would like to single out Dr Reddy and another consultant called Cristina who were faultless in the care and kindness they showed me. I found it unprofessional when LAS crews and Nurses were arguing and calling each other liars in front of patients. Any issues between staff should be dealt with out of sight and hearing of patients.
