From reception on D level to the discharge area on G level all staff were polite, thorough and above all, professional. The colonoscopy was done by Mr Richardson and Mr Conti who were thorough and very clear about what was happening. The nurses Rachel and Jane made me comfortable and were very attentive. The discharge lounge was clean, cool and relaxing. Antonio kept a check on me for 30 mins and provided welcome tea and biscuits. The reception nurse, ( sorry didn't note her name), was again very professional right through to discharging me with all the paperwork. The facilities on G level were first class.
All in all I felt in safe hands !
It seems strange to consider asking that I might recommend your service to anyone but a person who is suffering from the same complaint as me. i.e.family and friends.
A very good service. Quick with no problems
FIRST CLASS
What a waste of money!! Use the money spent on this nonsense which includes employing staff "Audit Facilitation Manager" to reduce the waiting time for appointments.
You did ask!!
I am grateful that we have an NHS to offer this essential service but think that the nursing and care offered was very variable - from confusion about meds’ to being told when I asked what I was taking to “ just take it” most staff did their best but some were authoritarian and lacking in compassion - two days after my surgery I went to the bathroom and came back to find my bed stripped and left unmade for some time -
When I said that sitting in the chair was intensely uncomfortable I was told “you are supposed to sit in the chair” - I got the feeling from her attitude that I was made to wait for complaining - this was unnerving at a time I felt vulnerable - there were moments that I needed comforting as when I realised the enormity of what had happened to me and burst into tears and the nurse gave me a hug - that meant so much
I was concerned as we all had open wounds when the bathroom was left for more than a day with urine round the toilet and some blood splatters and dirty toilet paper - when I mentioned it the blood was cleaned but the rest left!
Zoe Winter was amazing - she had authority, compassion and the ward ran like clockwork around the needs of the patients when she was in charge - it is because of her that I felt it was important to write this as she showed it was possible and set the standard
Also felt very supported by the physiotherapist who assessed me and the ones who came to my home for 10 days after discharge but it was not enough
Discharge was a cattle market and really unpleasant - with people sitting around the walls complaining for hours - there has to be a better way? I understand that there are resource issues but found it dehumanising
My anaesthetist was lovely and took great care before and after the op
Overall I want to thank all the people involved in getting me through the process am not at home and progressing well
You have a way to go to challenge the Spire Hospital for private patients. I had great difficulty understanding staff who do not have English as their first language. Having said this I have little criticism of the way they conducted themselves
The main entrance could show information on how to travel by lift to level G.
From the moment my illness was diagnosed and I was referred to Q.A. Hospital, I have experienced excellent, efficient and friendly care.
The nurse I was seen by, Lucy, went out of her way to sort out my meds before my surgery next week, I was anxious before as none had been explained to me, but she was able to contact cardio and it was all settled. She explained everything too, as a patient it’s important to understand what is going to happen. Lucy is a credit to QA!!
