After 7 months of waiting and a befuddled admin system between 2 hospitals I approached my operation with some trepidation. I was wrong. From the moment I met the operational team I felt secure and enlightened by their cheerful honesty. Everything was explained clearly & concisely before and after the op so that I was aware of procedures at all times. I know it was a stressful time for the ward as my op was nearly cancelled due to an emergency elsewhere. Some very ill patients on the ward became loud & agitated but were dealt with compassionately & professionally. My own return to consciousness was a bit frightening, and I believe a little violent, but calmed down in a short time by their positive attention. Aftercare is important, and it's the little things you remember. All patients were acknowledged with a natural smile, (not the awful puppet like white teeth we see so much of), as staff passed a bed. Regular checks to make sure everything was as it should be. Hot drinks were available when requested as was water, and assistance with toilet if required. Nobody likes being in hospital but I don't think any of the team could have done more to make the stay as comfortable as possible.
