Within 10 minutes of calling 999 an ambulance arrived at our door. After checks the Paramedics deemed I needed hospital care. They were able to grant my request to be taken to PCH, as the place where I’m given usual consultations & treatment. I was being driven within 20 minutes. On arrival at PCH I was taken into a consulting bay and being observed & treated by staff immediately. I was soon given a diagnosis of pneumonia & told I would need to be admitted to a ward for treatment, which would likely take a week as some would be Intravenously given. I was transferred to a ward in about 4 hours, then to 2 others for brief times during the next day, before a bed became available on the required Respiratory ward, in the afternoon. In the meantime I was aware that I was being very closely observed assessed & treated by the hospital staff. As I recovered I was told by my family & fellow room-mates, of the close observation I had being given when I was least aware & my breathing was at its most difficult. I felt I was kept well informed of my progress & treatment that would be necessary for my recovery. I was very well nursed & cared for as I needed. Once I felt able to eat I felt the food choices to suit my appetite & meals, with a plentiful supply of drinks, all presented well & consistently good quality. All the staff in all areas were caring, respectful, friendly & informative, & medical team ensuring that improvement was as good as it could be prior to approving me fit for discharge. The cleanliness of all the spaces that I used was excellent & all kept in good order. The only dissatisfaction I had was for the 7 hours that it took for the medicines to be dispensed for me to take home - I was grateful for the offer for them to be couriered to me to allow me home.
