I received a partial knee replacement in January of this year I was extremely happy with the operation, stay in hospital and staff who were all extremely helpful and attentive. In addition my surgeon/consultant was excellent in his clear advice and explanations. However I was not happy at all with the out patient physio therapy I received in the weeks after the operation. I paid for 6 sessions as part of my package. The first session was with an unqualified student. I had been assured they would be accompanied by a qualified physio but there was none in attendance. I called to complain and ensure I would be seeing a qualified physio next time. I had 2 further sessions with a qualified physio and student the second of which lasted 20 mins. These felt perfunctory and impersonalised. I was given more exercises but no clear plan as to which exercises to do, which ones to drop how long etc. Although I asked for details to be e-mailed they were not. My 4th session was with a locum who appeared to have no idea I was recovering from surgery and kept asking what the problem was. After this session I decided to go elsewhere so I could get the personalised treatment I needed. Post op physio is so important to recover well and quickly from joint replacement but it does not seem to be provided to a high enough standard at the hospital. It's such a shame that this element has let you down as the rest of the care I received was first class.
