GP referred me to N Tyneside CMHT. Received voicemail Friday 3rd November at 9.30am, stating that an assessment had been booked for me for Monday 6thNovember. They did not state where I was to go, or what time, just that I had an appointment on Monday. I picked the message up the following day (Saturday) - called to clarify time and place of appointments but they were closed . Phoned again in Mondat morning (day if apps). Was transferred to someone who was totally unhelpful, unable to tell me where / what time the appointment was. I explained I was at work and not able to take the day off at such short notice, especially since they could not even tell me where / what time the appointment is. It is nit acceptable to phone someone in a Friday and leave messages they have appointment the following Monday day, and not explain where / what time .

A completely awful service with absolutely no care for patients and totally lack communication they rely on old outdated notes from years ago not realising that people do change if you reject any of the treatment offered because you won't sit in a group they chuck you off saying they can't help you and do not offer any other treatment options but group work at the end of the day group work isn't for everyone and some clients feel intimidated sitting in groups the place is a total shambles

They took over one month after my initial consultation, in order to hear they can't help me. I kept getting told they will tell me within a few days of my result and this went on for 4 weeks. When I was told they would call me back nobody would, so I ended up calling regularly to find out whats going on. Ended up being more traumatic than any use to me at all.

This service is slow in responses and do not not provide the necessary information for your care. After requesting change of workers I was then approached by that worker asking about my change of worker and, being told that it was not possible as I was being discharged from the service soon. Which I had not been told before. The communication between staff members is atrocious. Myself and others using the service have been given different information on the same topic on numerous occasions. We also have not been given information that is vitalall to our treatment until it was to late. The DBT group therapy is good, the information and guidance that you receive is helpfull. It is just a shame that the rest of the system is appalling.

As someone who has had different forms of therapy I thought that giving a new one try would help me. I attend the group dbt and although in princable it is a good form of therapy for my issues, unfortunately over the last year I have come to realize that the only patients the staff want in group are people who just nod and agree with everything they say. Over the last year situations have not been dealt with appropriately by staff, the communication skills between each other is appalling, . The way they teach the group is not inclusive for everyone, I struggle with reading and I made them aware of this at the start of group. I asked on several occasions if they could enlarge the writing on the pieces of paper so I can read it easier but it didn't happen and I'm still being given piles and piles of paperwork that I struggle to read. I am not saying I haven't got any benefit out DBT but I believe if certain situations had been handled better and teaching modified to my ability then I could of possibly gained more from my time in dbt. I believed I was going to be supported through this and my cpn has done an ok job with that but there's no real support offered outside of the group and there's no real support offered inside the group either. I am not saying that people shouldn't try DBT but I do believe people should be aware that it's not all that you told it is, don't go into it with your eyes closed. I believe if the staff worked on how they teach dbt and how they interacted with patients and how they deal with situations when they arrived then yes dbt can help people but unfortunately my journey wasn't that successful.

My daughter had been a patient at Whitley bay chmt since leaving children's services at the age of 18 she's now 30 they're an absolute disgrace there's no communication a psychiatrist saw her for 20 mins and made her mind up my daughters addicted to diazepam she takes 1 or 2 a week to help voices in her head I've spoken to a few chemists who agree this is a ridiculous statement and she could not be addicted on such a small amount my daughter is at high risk of self harm and has taken overdoses previously but has been discharged they're an absolute joke. The very people they're supposed to help they make them worse with their actions and lack of communication and when things go wrong who's left to pick up the pieces my daughter has a personality disorder and other issues I totally agree with most of the comments in other reviews on this page the whole place needs a good shake up before something serious happens to somebody

This team have no interest in their own policy for caring or physical well being of clients I've been treated like am not worthy person they have reduced me to wishing I was dead . There's no empathy amongst the lot of them at the end of the day it's only a paycheque no wonder people die they've left me feeling like death is the only option They need to start listening and work at their own policies and have a little empathy for situations their clients are in am sure if it was them or their family members they'd expect the best not second best clients should have to beg for help it's degrading by any means ..I just hope future client get better care bit late for me ........

If you attend an assessment looking clean and tidy and are intelligent, then forget getting any help. If you can form a sentence then you can't be mentally ill. Don't expect your voice or opinions to be listened to. Dont expect to have any input into your care plan. I was told I cant have treatment as I have dependent traits. I may become dependent on the fantastic treatment cmht offers!!@. Would I be refused heart treatment in case I became dependent on the heart surgeon. I hope the psych doesn't get too dependent on his pay check. No one ever returns calls. Many cpns are rude and hurtful. They show little empathy. Not all. The male cpns seem more sympathetic. Tony and Derek I thank. Dont try to complain to higher management... They just ignore your calls. Far too busy to help patients. I am suicidal. Been told it's my choice. No....I want help to live. I want the cmht to admit to its namerous mistakes and for once listen to what I feel will help. Im living this hell. How can they improve their service?? New staff. More training. Listen to how patients feel. They actually might know what will help them get well

I thought with the reviews being over 2 years old that this place would have changed. Unfortunately not. I spent about two months under assessment to just be told at the end that I am "complex" and maybe I am "just me". Maybe I don't have a mental illness and they would "write back to my GP". Unless you're a black and white case, you'll get no where! They didn't listen. Every time was the same questions and every time they acted surprised as if it was the first time they'd heard my responses. I agree with everyone else in saying this place is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard and they just want to discharge you! Avoid! They'll make you feel worse.

Rude curt receptionists, telephone never gets answered, cramped waiting area, very public location (so everyone knows were your going) ... They dont really help people with mental illness. They rush people and try to discharge them asap. They dont give counselling or talking therapys, just medication. They dont care about nasty side effects from the medication. Appointments get cancelled at short notice often ... cpns/social workers seem inexperienced and not very confident in what they are doing...
