My father was rushed into hospital with cardiac issues. He spent 14 days there receiving treatment and was completely spoiled and cared for by the fantastic staff there. The only complaint I have is that the efficiency at management level seemed quite weak. 1. The doctor staffing levels were inadequate, My father could have been out of the hospital in maybe 7 days had there been more doctors available to treat him. Hence the NHS had to cover the extra cost of keeping him (and about 4 others in his ward) for the extra time required for treatment This is false economy. More doctors should be recruited with the money that would be saved by the potential shortened stays of patients. 2. The communication between doctors / doctors and doctors / patients (not nurses / patients) was also weak. Although the treatment was fantastic, the lack of information and inaccurate information relating to treatment, planning, etc was quite frustrating.. especially as my mum suffers from early stage dementia and so was getting very upset each time she was given bad information as a result of these confusions. Having a member of family hospitalized is very distressing. People have to completely reorganize their lives , often at great financial cost, to care for their loved ones. So receiving bad information has a really negative knock on effect both emotionally and financially. Again though, I would like to emphasize that the treatment my dad received was fantastic. The above comments are just improvements that could be made to make it an even better place to visit.
