I received good care, particularly from the nurses who took great interest, looked after and treated my serious wound following an open fracture of the ankle. Thanks to them it is well on the way to recovery. However, communication was poor I did have to persistantly ask about my treatment particularly about being referred to a step down bed which no member of staff seemed to know very much. I had issues with requests for assistance to the toilet and the standard response was you will have to wait 'I have only one pair of hands' or ' I will be with you in a minute'. There is a bullying culture from the top management downwards of the very vulnerable patients which I felt very uncomfortable witnessing and did report to the Hospital Matron. He appeared to be shocked at my allegations but when he was on duty one Friday night he was shouting at patients in the corridor which I could hear in my bed and he snapped at a patient in the bed next to me when she asked for a change of pad. On the night duty, patients asking for commodes, curtains were not closed, pads and nightwear were changed in front of an open bed ward. One patient asked for a commode and was told by the night sister she would have to wait which resulted in the patient suffering the indignity of having an accident in bed. I could go on..... On the positive side I thank the GP's who did the daily ward rounds, Physio and OT teams.
