Although I was treated well by all the staff, I felt very isolated after my operation whilst waiting for my medication to be given to me so I could be discharged. Patients who had been operated on after me were going out of the ward before me. I was the last on the list for cataract surgery and although I was seen at 3.50, I didn't get discharged until nearly 6 p.m. The excuse I was given was that the doctors kept interupting the staff as they needed to use the computer which was also needed to order the medication. Surely, there must be more than one computer in the Day Case Unit. Why isn't the medication already waiting for patients after surgery. My sister had been waiting for me for 6 hours without being told what was happening or when I would be operated on. She had driven all the way from Surrey in order to take me to hospital and back to her house to recuperate. We both felt badly treated.
