Had a virus, collapsed in the kitchen, but no prob, my head was spinning so knew what it was, been a bit stuffed up in the sinus for a few days. called the gp, told me to go to A&E. simple anti biotics job, gp (well receptionist) didn’t want to know. So I went to The Grange, after all I’ve heard with pessimism. Booked in, took a seat was triaged, immediately an ecg, little wait then saw a nurse, explained all, did I blood tests. Results took a long time but people forget they aren’t alone, blood tests from the wards, urgent admissions, District nurses, GP surgeries etc… Had the results which weren’t good, Doctor could compare with tests a few weeks ago which were good, so he could tell the problem. He saw a consultant and gave me a CT scan to make sure, again I’m not the only one the list had the scan, got the all clear, and anti biotics prescribed. The grange gets a lot of bad press, but as long as GPs don’t see patients and hide behind phones it can only get worse, people will die due to lack of easy to access care. A lot there had simple problems, maybe it’s now the first point of contact for patients. Ok, I was there about 9 hours. I was treated with total respect at all times, I didn’t moan gripe or swear at staff as a lot did. I recognised they were doing their best with the patient number and staff available. It’s not Mac Donald’s, Order a burger at one window collect at the next. Ambulances arriving all day with really I’ll patients, unlike me with a bug, we must realise that sometimes others must come first.
