Attended A and E with my father who had, had a fall and suffered a nasty head wound that was bleeding. No signage telling you where to set down patients who couldn’t walk or that you had a to book in at a small portacabin outside. Waiting room was full. Terrible design, based on something from the 1940’s by the look of it, but whoever designed it has never tried to wheel a wheelchair through a full waiting room to the toilet or into triage. After waiting over 3 hours covered in blood and still not even triaged, with no ventilation and patients sitting knee to knee we left as we could not stomach the sight of two people eating burger and chips in front of us (obviously not an accident or emergency!). There were plenty of staff but there is evidently a problem with the triage system and the booking in system. The young man at the booking desk said he was unable to help move the wheelchair for me or get anyone to help even though I had explained I’d recently had an operation and couldn’t push it as it was too heavy. Conversely, the security guards outside were very helpful and helped me into the waiting room even though I guess it’s not their job. Considering this is supposed to be a new hospital, I’m appalled by the poor design and lack of organisation. I feel the staff are similarly frustrated and I don’t know how they do it.. Someone from management needs to be there to see the chaos especially as we were there long before pub kicking out time when I’m guessing things get much worse. I’ve been in better field hospitals.
