I was in the post natal then transitional ward in September 2016. The treatment I received from the majority of the staff was fantastic and I cannot praise them highly enough. We even visited post discharge to take a thank you card and chocolates for those who cared for us. However, there were two staff who do not fall under the heading of fantastic or even nice, and these are who I write about a year later, as their words and attitudes stay with me as the negative aspects of my experience of the unit.
Firstly, midwife whose name is "Jackie" (I believe she was formally senior within the unit and now does temp shifts): Jackie entered my cubicle around feeding time which I was used to with all midwives. I had not met her before and she had not seen my baby. She went over to him and took his hand which I thought was quite nice. She then said: "he has quite normal hands for 'one of them'". The appalling comment, a throw away comment to her no doubt, was in reference to my sons hands, my beautiful son who I had just been informed was born with Downs Syndrome. There is no deformity to my my sons hands. I hadn't even come to terms with the diagnosis, and to have someone who is supposed to be a health care professional make such a comment, is sickening and disgusting. Even if no offence was meant, those words still offend me now. How can someone who works I health care talk in such a prejudiced way? This website asks for constructive comments for improvement, but in this instance I can make none.
The other person, i apologise for not knowing the name but it was the female doctor/paediatric consultant on shift on the night of 10th September 2016. I had just been transferred from the delivery suit and I will forever be grateful that she stopped my son had begun to show signs of jaundice. However, her words to me, which were witnessed by the midwife on shift were that I was not doing a good enough job, that I should have been feeding my baby at least every hour and essentially I should have spotted the jaundice already. I should have made a formal complaint whilst I was there and clearly remembered all of the details, but if records can be checked as to who was on shift that, please ensure she has some training in bedside manners, especially when talking to people who have no medical background and probably haven't slept for a very long time!
No appointment necessary and only waited for about twenty minutes from checking in at reception for X-rays to be done.results will go to own G.P in about seven days. All staff very pleasant and efficient. Thanks to them all.
The lady did US answeres to my questions when I asked. She did weel in her job. I am waiting for the results to go to my GP.
Great care, thank you
My daughter was cared for very well. Very friendly staff, however receptionist came across rude on phone. Maybe she was busy but when trying to gain my 24hr access for my daughter this she came across rude and snappy. Nursing staff I could not fault. They work very hard, very busy ward. More cutlery in the patient kitchen would be helpful, and more TV remotes.
The care I received was excellent and much improved since my last stay in 2014. I was treated with great respect and warmth by all the medical staff who assisted me.
Wow.
I certainly wasn't expecting the superb service I had yesterday at The Hearing & Balance Centre, Brotherton Wing at the LGI. Vicki Maher went out of her way to explain my results regarding a recent hearing test, what the options were moving on from them, and then explaining the hearing aid option, how it worked, and what they would do to improve my tinnitus condition symptoms.
Vicki was professional, respectful, friendly and sympathetic throughout the session. She put my mind at rest and allayed my concerns. She, as others recently in my experience with the NHS, is a credit to her profession. Sincere thanks for a great experience. Service like this deserves recognition..

I forgot to complete the questionnaire - hence the on-line reply. On the questionnaire which was handed to me the names Paul and Rachel were written on thr form.
Paul and Rachel were excellent. I was nervous and worried about what was going to happen but in no time at all I was relaxed and felt I was being looked after by two experienced, professional people.
When I left to rest for a few minutes in the 'Waiting area' Rachel came to check I was OK.
In the past few years I have received an excellent service from the NHS.
Many thanks.
