I was seen by the consultant before my appointment time ie no waiting around.
I value the care I have received on various occasions at Kingston hospital. The staff generally are professional, helpful and caring.
I was seen by Dr Hugh Jones, who has consistently advised me on my arthritic hands and wrists for the past three years
At times the waiting to be seen was long, not knowing who was next and when you would be called. It meant staying put for up to two hours or so, fearing missing the call, should you want to 'stretch your legs' etc
So far I am disappointed over the time delay in initiating my treatment. This happened due to the loss or dissappearence of my initial referral letter from my GP resulting in loosing six weeks of time before being seen for a very painful hernia condition.
Today was my first visit to Kingston Hospital. It was easy enough to get to and to navigate around the hospital to my department and the staff I spoke to where friendly and helpful.
My only slight complaint is the doctor was running 30 minutes late, and I'm sure I heard another patient say they had an appointment with him at the same time as me. I can't believe anyone would double book slots but if that is happening then no wonder there are delays!
I have always had very caring treatment at this hospital
The rheumatology department has always been first class . I have been a patient of Dr Jones s i said for about 17 years, and also Kate hunt the rhumatology nurse. I first saw them at the old queen marys hospital..They always listen, very friendly towards me and explain fully about my condition. I was 40 when i ws diagnosed with Rhematoid arthritis, and sadly have had 2 joints replaced and now my third is coming, but if it ca help my life and mobility then i must have them. Dr. Jones has such a great sense of humour, and i always feel safe in his hands... This is one clinic that i am totally impressed and happy with as always i cannot fault a thing.
In all visits to this hospital I have been completely satisfied with the establishment and my treatment.
It is of course possible to give a fairly objective view of the physical conditions in a hospital. When it comes to treatment and relationships with staff, it is my opinion that a patient's view of their experience with a doctor and/or a hospital is to an extent dependent on the attitude the patient brings to the relationship as well as the attitude and skills of the doctor. I know people who have little good to say about the NHS owing to their expectation that others will solve all their problems, their failure to understand their own contributions to their condition and aversion to hearing things they don't want to hear; inevitable at times given the nature of illness. This small rant is to suggest that feedback from patients on sites like this, without the context of their history and personal psychology should be treated with considerable caution. It's simplistic to equate a patient's views with any sort of literal "truth".
Kingston Hospital is a great hospital. I feel that the medical staff are very caring and helpful. The only thing that lets it down is the parking. I always dread having to drive round and round the car park trying to find a space. I also think It's a low blow having to pay for parking. The people that come to the hospital are not customers going into a shopping centre but patients needing medical care. We pay our taxes and feel that this should be covered by that. If there is a reason for the payment maybe you should advertise clearly where the money goes. That way people might feels less reluctant to pay.
