We were on the maternity ward to be induced, we arrived Monday afternoon/evening as agreed and all seemed well to start, the nurses introduced themselves and explained what would be happening. However after the the first stage if induction was initiated we didn’t see any other nurses or hca’s until we called for one hours later to find out what would be happening next. Unfortunately this continued the next day with no one coming to check on me or even just to pop their head in to see if I was ok. We barely saw a staff member from Monday afternoon until Wednesday lunch time when we were taken to the labour ward. We were told we were ready to go to the labour ward Tuesday pm but were left waiting until we’d due to lack of beds which is understandable as women in active labour take priority and this is beyond the staffs control but what is within their control is their ability to keep the patient (me) updated on what is happening. This did not happen and it wasn’t until almost 11pm when we called for a nurse to ask if we should try to get some sleep or not. Some of the nurses we did meet did not introduce themselves and when we did go to find a member of staff there were none to be found. I believe the ward was very understaffed . If this had been my first pregnancy/induction I would have been left feeling extremely worried and alone, however on this occasion being my third pregnancy/induction I was just left annoyed and anxious as this time was very different to my first two labour experiences at Nottingham city hospital. The same care or lack of it due to low staff members continued post natal when it was impossible to get a dr to sign off on my baby leaving hospital, we could have left Thursday morning but instead where left there until late Friday, taking up beds unnecessarily.
